Our Church

WELLANDPORT: "We believe and profess one catholic or universal Church, which is a holy congregation of true Christian believers, all expecting their salvation in Jesus Christ, being washed by His blood, sanctified and sealed by the Holy Spirit" (Belgic Confession, Article 27). This universal Church comes to expression in local churches found in communities throughout the world, such as in Wellandport, Ontario.

UNITED: This signifies the unity of our congregation, our unity with other churches in our federation, and the unity we have with believers across the world. "This holy Church is not confined, bound, or limited to a certain place or to certain persons, but is spread and dispersed over the whole world; and yet is joined and united with heart and will, by the power of faith, in one and the same Spirit" (Belgic Confession, Article 27).

REFORMED: Our roots go back to the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century, more particularly to the Calvinistic branch of the Reformation. We confess all the great doctrines of the Reformation, emphasizing that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone (Eph. 2:8). The Scriptures alone are our infallible rule for faith and practice. To God alone belongs all the glory.

CHURCH: "The marks by which the true Church is known are these: If the pure doctrine of the gospel is preached therein; if it maintains the pure administration of the sacraments as instituted by Christ; if church discipline is exercised in punishing of sin; in short, if all things are managed according to the pure Word of God, all things contrary thereto rejected, and Jesus Christ acknowledged as the only Head of the Church" (Belgic Confession, Article 29). We are by no means perfect, but we seek to be faithful to Jesus Christ in accordance with the Scriptures.

We believe that the Bible is faithfully summarized and taught in the Ecumenical Creeds of the Christian Church and by the Confessions (or Three Forms of Unity) of the Reformed tradition. These can be found on our website here.
